We have undertaken seven refurbishments of Victorian villas in the conservation area of Cathedral Road. All of the properties have been modernised bringing them back to individual residences and making the most of the original Victorian features, reinstating these where they were missing or damaged. Some of these properties had been used as rented houses in multiple occupation and were in a poor state, requiring a deep retrofit as well as an extension. Generally existing rear annex's of most were of a poor quality with too many small rooms, and so were removed to make way for contemporary open plan extensions. The new space generally created open plan kitchen/dining rooms and linking onto the rear gardens for the first time. Internally the rooms have been rationalised, fitted out with new bathrooms etc, with a new utility rooms and cloakrooms within the darker spaces in the ground floor. By rationalising the spaces in this way, and with the use of roof-lights and large windows/doors to the garden, the resulting spaces are airy and light with a blurring of the in-out spaces to make the most of the gardens.
"The end result reflects the quality and design of the project and the crispness between original and contemporary.
Jo and I are delighted with the end product and very grateful for your design input and support throughout the project."
