Sustainability
We care deeply about the environment, so sustainable construction and a ‘fabric first’ approach provides the guiding hand on our projects. All buildings have a lasting impact on the environment and we are keen to educate our clients on the best options for them which are available and affordable in the long term.
The fundamental principles of good sustainable design include considering the impact of the site and immediate environment, insulating well and reducing air leakage to a minimum. This, together with the use of daylight and ventilation will ensure energy demand is minimised
Most recently we have designed and built a number of houses to the principles of the Passiv Haus standard (not accredited) which creates very comfortable spaces with extremely low energy use. We would be pleased to take any appropriate project to full accreditation level.
Rob has a particular experience in the incorporation of smart technology and post completion evaluation techniques to ensure that our design proposals can be monitored and assessed if required.
Carolyn has a wealth of experience having led her previous two practices forward in this respect. Both partners have helped delivered projects to BREEAM Excellent and Code for Sustainable Homes level 4. Carolyn was presented with the Sustainability Award by Women in Construction to mark her work in this area.
The practice has signed up to the Sustainable Development Charter of Wales, is a member of the Green Register and is currently working towards the Green Mark.
